Simple lesson I’ve learned: when your boss asks you for something, give him what he asks for – not what you *think* he wants. I have been spinning my wheels pulling some data for my boss for the last two weeks, thinking that I had to format it and pull together this elaborate presentation. Come to find out, I’ve had almost all the stuff he wanted for like a month now. I am sure I will look back and chuckle (and I am kind of chuckling now), but basically I just needed to “Keep It Simple, Stupid.”

This is not to knock the need to be proactive. I just mean cover the base before you go off being proactive.
